Travelers Pin Board

My first attempt at framing, this pin board was designed as a wedding gift.

The frame is made of maple and stained with leather dye, a trick I learned while finishing a pipe. To start the frame, I took an 8 foot length of maple 2x4 and chamferred the edge with a plane. The corners were mitred, and glued using a band clamp. I don't own a rabbet plane (Rabbet - The recess on the back of a frame), so I used a hand router to create the recess.

To make the cork board, I first glued a sheet of cork to a board of 1/8" ply. The map was then laser engraved, and the whole assemply was nailed to the frame.
